This was a summer to remember for our team. We had some of the usual ups and downs however, over all our student athletes performed above and beyond their potential.
We ended indoor season with a BANG! As our now Senior athlete, Phyllis Francis winning the National Scholastic Indoor Championship (NSIC ) in a brutal karate chopping, elbowing and of course the usual pushing 800 meter “New York Style” race ( see Armory Video below).
Ahhhhh! Outdoor Season was a feet to marvel at! The rookies of the team Tameka Bryce, Kayla and Tian Laing made it to Fitchburg, MA where our USATF regionals were held. This by the way was a great showing for 3 new athletes who just joined the team
Our 3 veteran’s Phyllis Francis, Taia Thomas and Claudia Francis advanced later in the season to compete in Greensboro, NC at the USATF Junior Olympics but you will read that news later ( I regress sometimes )…..
Team Evolution started our outdoor season by competing in the 2009 Reebok Grand Prix where Phyllis and Claudia Francis ran tremendous races Claudia the victor and Phyllis to follow a huge PB by Claudia of 2:05, the whole team was on cloud 9! The team took photos with the likes of some of the best athletic talent in the world! After finishing we entered into Nike Outdoor Nationals (NON) where Phyllis and Taia both improved time wise however, Claudia Francis was on a roll she was victorious again and even beat Senior Charlene Lipsey with a pretty good lead, what an outstanding race!!!
We flew into Michigan to compete for the 800m world youth trials, winners go on to represent the USA in Italy and compete against the fastest youth the world has to offer. Was it no surprise that both Phyllis and Claudia made it through the Semi round however, Claudia Francis won and represented the USA in the 800m! She made it to the Semi’s however, did not make it through to the Final in Italy…But what an AWESOME FINISH!!! Who can say they made it that far!!!
Kudos to Coach Andrew Francis and Team Evolution for raising the bar on Track & Field!!!!!!
